About David McLachlan
Qualifications and background
David has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours in Political Science), trained as a journalist and pursued a career as a radio and television reporter. He later worked as a political consultant including advising a Federal Cabinet Minister.
Before his election to Council, David worked as a consultant to numerous businesses on issues management, media management and government relations.
Committee memberships and interests
David is a member of the Public Transport Committee.
This committee considers policies aimed at:
- ensuring Brisbane's public transport operations (including buses, ferries and City Cats) are effective and meet the needs of the community
- supporting the implementation of all aspects relating to public transport in the Integrated Regional Transport Plan
- developing busways that are efficient, convenient, comfortable and safe
- managing Brisbane's public transport travel demand in order to meet targets outlined in Council's Corporate Plan
- managing the operations of the Transport Assets Support Unit
- managing the operations of Brisbane Transport
- ensuring that public transport planning takes into account long term sustainability
Married with two young children, he is active in local sporting groups, particularly rugby union.
